Team V (18 September 2017 – 15 February 2018)
Sabaidee!
We are Team V! We are happy to be part of the project and will be teaching English in Laos from the 18th of September 2017 until the 15th of February 2018 at Ban Sikeud Primary School, Phang Heng Primary School, Phang Heng Secondary School, and the Lao-German Technical College.
In the following, we would like to introduce ourselves:
Hello! My name is Hanna, I am 25 years old and work at Sikeud Primary School, where I teach my tandem-teachers Ms Mittaphone „Mit“ and Ms Phovang „Noy“ in English. The main goal I try to achieve is improving their pronunciation as they already learned many didactical skills from the previous teams and in England. I also want to help them to get more independent with planning lessons, creating material, and improving their knowledge in life-long learning even without our support. In the afternoon, I do “Activity time”, which means I sing and play English games (“Singlish“) with the pupils on the schoolyard. In addition, I am responsible for the housekeeping for Team V. I am curious and very excited about living and teaching in Laos for four months.
Sabai-dee, I am Jessica and I study Bilingual Studies for primary schools at the University of Education in Karlsruhe. In Laos, I teach the 85 preschoolers at Ban Sikeud Primary School and I really enjoy spending time with that many beginners. I read out picture books and teach them a little bit of English every day. At Ban Phang Heng Secondary School I teach two groups of non-English teachers. Finally, I can say that I love the politeness and kindness of Lao people and feel welcomed every day.
Furthermore, Veronika and I activated the English Games Club and Marie and I are responsible for the Conversation Club. Together with Jessica and Ariane taking care of the blog work is my special task for the next months. I will stay in Laos until January 2018 and I am looking forward to a great time!
Sabaidee! My name is Sandra and I turned 26 here in Laos – literally a very special place to celebrate it. Teaching the (highly motivated) Elementary class at the Lao-German Technical College is one of my tasks, which I really enjoy doing. Furthermore, I work as an English teacher for the BHS students and together with Ariane and Nina, I am in charge of setting up a Didactics Room.
I am very grateful to spend four months in Laos – a place I did not know anything about before I came here – side by side with Lao people.
Hello, I am Nina. I am a 28-year-old graduate from the University of Education in Karlsruhe. Living and working in Vientiane, Laos, has proven to be interesting, exciting, and challenging at times, but most of all rewarding. My classes, the BHS-sponsored Electronical Technicians Year 1 and 2 as well as the teachers in the Technical English class, are highly motivated and eager to learn. It is a great pleasure to be working with them and be part of their development. For my two tandem-teachers, Ms Mouk and Ms Viengkhom, I provide assisstance in planning and carrying out lessons, creating teaching material, and expanding their methodological repertoire. This will be made available for all the teachers at the college by setting up a Didactics Room where materials can be created and used by everyone. I am also working on renovating the Lending Library so that students as well as teachers have the possibility to expand their studies.
ສະບາຍດີ Sabaidee! My name is Ariane and I am 24 years old. I am responsible for teaching the Beginners (A+B) at the LGTC as well as doing the Activity time for two BHS-sponsored student classes of the second year. Additionally, I work together with Mr Saythong, helping him to improve his lessons and to gain general didactic knowledge. Likewise, Sandra, Nina and I also offer a Conversation Club for the teachers and take care of establishing a Didactics Room. I am very grateful that I got the opportunity to teach English in Laos.
